Design Performance Objective

Building Section

Final design solution, awarded an honorary mention at the 2007 ACSA design competition: Concrete design for a sustainable world.

Students: Anabel Arsenault, Gabrielle Nadeau, & Olivier Boucher

Software/Tools:

Winter 2007 Graduate Level ‘Ambiances physiques’ (environmental controls in architecture) Studio/ Seminar

Frugality First, Complexity when Needed

Frugality first, complexity when needed. Acknowledgement of the importance of orientation and microclimate in the generation of complexity.

Investigative Strategy

Use of a Matrix to generate the design hypothesis. Importance is initially given to quantitative results. Initial design: Sun, Wind and Light, LUMcalcul (Demers), PET (Potvin).

Evaluation Process
Initial hypothesis need to be validated throughout the semester with further quantitative and qualitative investigations.
