lemmy caution
alphaville

"alphaville: silence - logic - safety - prudence."

lemmy caution, played by eddie constantine is the only sane character in the film alpaville. lemmy poses as a journalist carrying a camera with him and documenting everything he sees. for this reason we are able to see the madness that exists in alphaville by measuring what we see against the character lemmy caution. alphaville is quite mad. the society relies on a super computer known as alpha 60 which has outlawd free thought and individualist concepts like love, poetry, and emotion. citizens are being assimilated into computers themselves only identified by numbers, without a will of their own, with no ideas or feelings. people showing signs of emotion are presumed to be acting illogically, and are gathered up, interrogated, and executed. it is lemmy cautions mission to expose this madness and destroy the super computer. love, poetry, emotion... feeling is nessisary, it is what makes us human By taking this quality away from us you create a society that is silent, logic, safe and prudent, but also static. all perspective is lost in a society devoid of original ideas and feeling. we need to have diversity in order to progress our society forward.
