vice-counsel du-pont vice-counsel du-pont, played by angus macfadyen, is the appointed leader of the city-state libria in the film equilibrium. in the aftermath of world war three, madness is introduced to the film when we find out that the citizens of libria have been living in a society void of all human emotion. this drastic action was taken in order to prevent the possibility of another war which would ultimately destroy the human race completely. however, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and vice-counsel du-pont has been indulging in prohibited material and the ability to feel. by the end of the film we find out that the madness of du-pont has been keeping the citizens of libria in a robotic like state, not for the benefit of society but in order to maintain his wealth and power.
