Columbus Regional Hospital

About the building:

Both the Master Plan as well as the renovations and additions to the Columbus Regional Hospital were designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architect. The entry to the hospital and its public spaces are designed at the level of a "hotel".

Exterior view of the building. The tall portion is part of the existing hospital/renovated.
Exterior of the cafeteria/dining area with outside eating at right and shaded trellis.

The shading trellis at the cafeteria wall is covered in vines whose initial direction of growth is supported by wires that are attached to the building.

All of the brick masonry on the existing part of the hospital needed to be replaced. Here we can see the specialized steel scaffolding that is erected, literally hung from the building structure, to facilitate work on the project.
